Rambo (2008) is the fourth installment of the popular franchise of the same title starring Sylvester Stallone as Vietnam War veteran John Rambo.


After twenty years since the last film of the famous action movie series, Vietnam war veteran John Rambo has retreated to northern Thailand, and become a boatman at Salween River in Myanmar. He accompanied a group of mercenaries for a resue mission to help the people of a damaged village. The mission goes well until the Burmese army attacks the village, killing innocent villagers and some members of missionaries. When the missionaries fail to come back after ten days, their pastor comes to Rambo, tells him what has transpired, and asks for his assistance in guiding hired mercenaries to the village to rescue other survivors who had been kidnapped by the Burmese. Despite the fact that he already sworn off all forms of violence, he had no choice but to help the kidnapped mercenaries from the enemies...he knows what he must do and this is his most dangerous mission to date.

The Thin Red Line movie is based from the novel 'The Thin Red Line' written by James Jones. It was nominated in 1998 Academy Awards including: best picture, best director, best screenplay, best cinematography, best editing, best musical score and best sound. The movie won the top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in 1999. Academy Award winning director Martin Marcantonio Luciano Scorsese ranked it as his second favorite movie of the 90's.


It was directed by Terrence Malick and has a large cast of well-known actors including Sean Penn, Adrien Brody, John Cusack and Ben Chaplin. John Travolta and George Clooney has cameo but memorable appearances here. This action / war movie tells the story of a group of US forces in World War II that were sent in the Pacific Island of Guadalcanal.


The story setting was in 1943 during World War II when the offensive forces of U.S. Army were sent into the South Pacific Island to break the last resistance of the Japanese troops. A strong bond among the US soldiers were formed as they were fighting for the survival of oneself and his fellow men against the Asian counter force.


Director Terrence Malick excellently illustrated the tension and fear of the soldiers and the chaos of war itself. No single character stands above the rest, he gives an emphasis for the important characters thus, creating a connection between the movie characters and the audience.

Saving Private Ryan's central story is about finding the lost paratrooper in a war held at the Omaha Beach (the codename used for principal landing points in Normandy, France that was invaded by the Allied forces during the World War II ) whose brothers were all killed in separate war actions (the two in Omaha Beach and one in New Guinea). The search for Private Ryan is a rescue mission ordered by a veteran Captain Commander John H. Miller of the 2nd Ranger Battalion to return Ryan immediately to his downhearted mother.


The first 30 minutes of this action movie is astonishing as it reveals a graphic view of an extreme war - noise of tanks, aircrafts, canon fire, bombs, machine guns, bullets, soldiers, corpses, mud and blood. It's a great opening sequence with a realistic and well-executed combat scenes.


The movie portrays the sacrificial service of the brave soldiers risking their lives to save and defend one another, and the survival depends on doing the very best that they could do - better than taking chances...
